If you have been considering bathroom renovations, it’s only natural to think about current trends and those that will stand the test of time. After all, given how much of an investment a new bathroom can require, it’s a space you don’t want to renovate too often.
The problem is, the previous owners of your current bathroom probably thought their design would last forever. Now, it’s outdated and non-functional. Before you make some costly mistakes, consider the following trends below.
Modern and Organic
Black and white have been a common renovation theme of choice for several years. It’s still a popular option in homes being constructed as we speak. However, many homeowners are now ‘softening’ those contemporary colours by adding organic materials into their design.
They might break up the black and white with a beautiful wooden vanity. Or, they may even opt for wooden flooring that adds some warmth to the space.
Marble and Stone
As expensive as marble and stone can be, it’s a desirable option for any homeowner looking for durable materials that will stand the test of time. It doesn’t get much more robust than stone, does it?
What’s more, marble and stone are available in a variety of textures and styles. You can also use it for your flooring, walls, shower, and vanity.
Coloured Tapware
While chrome is still the preferred choice for tapware by most people, there’s no denying that coloured tapware is beginning to stand out. Black tends to be the most popular option, but you can also now purchase gold, rose gold, brass, and the list goes on. Who knew that tapware could become a standout feature in your home? That is now the reality.
Small Tiles
When tiles first became popular in bathrooms, they were of a standard size for functionality and easy installation. Now, we’re experimenting with Subway tiles, tiny tiles that look like grids, and even patterned tiles installed at various angles.
The tiles are as functional as your standard large square tiles, but they are designed to stand out like a feature wall. It’s worth keeping in mind, though, that the more ‘creative’ you get with tiles, the higher the labour cost can be.
Floating Toilets
Look at pictures of the average new home, and you will likely notice something different about the toilet. Rather than be attached to the floor with a cistern positioned above, many are protruding from the wall.
Wall toilets or floating toilets are installed into the wall during the home’s construction. The cistern is also hidden into the wall. While some people renovating their homes install such toilets too, they are certainly more popular in new homes due to the ease of installing them while construction is still ongoing.
Sliding Barn Doors
Many people find themselves trying to maximise the space within a small bathroom. You may find that your door hits a shower, a vanity, or even a toilet. You also have lots of wasted space that you must leave free for the door to swing open.
That’s why many homeowners are now installing barn-style doors. These slide across rather than swing inward or outward. Even homeowners with no free walls on either side of the bathroom are jumping on the bandwagon with cavity sliders.
Bathroom renovations will continue to change year on year. Still, these above look like they are here to stay. They may be worth considering for your next bathroom renovation project.
