dating basics for men

(Post date: 2007-07-23)

You don’t have to be a Greek god to attract women or to be successful at dating.

Looks, in fact, are much less important than confidence and behaviour.

If you are balding, carry a few extra pounds, this does not automatically mean you are finished in the dating world.

Try and get into shape, if you can, not for women, but for your own health and confidence. Never underestimate the power of confidence with women.

Learn to reflect confidence in your voice, manner, posture, and your total personality. Confidence, when genuine, can have tremendous power.

No matter how shy you are, how little confidence you currently have, you can always gain more with a little work. Confidence is basically learned behaviour, and can be acquired. It can be mastered, provided you are willing to do more than just read about it. You have to practice it, live the principles, and make it a part of your life. Start small. Give yourself an easy and immediate goal to carry out, and then go ahead and do it.

Remember that it is a step-by-step process. Once you have accomplished step one, go on to bigger things. For example, if you are shy around women, start taking out any woman, and every woman that you possibly can. The more women you are around, the more relaxed and secure you will begin to feel. The goal should be to ask the woman for a date, a woman you are attracted to. Even if she turns you down, just the fact that you were able to ask, will increase your confidence. Decide that you are going to talk to one stranger, a woman, today, at the supermarket, in a queue, on the bus, wherever.

Just a few words, can build your confidence.

Maintain a level of etiquette while dating, once you reach that level. The worst thing you can do is be rude, or slovenly, or offensive. No one wants to date a guy who does not know how to take care of himself, and his date.

So be neat, give some attention to appearances, without being vain, and be on your best behaviour.

Many issues arise in the process of dating. Not the least of which is money. People who are dating are likely to have many questions about money. For example, it is a legitimate concern for men to be able to avoid always having to pick up the tab. This does not mean you are cheap. It just means that your money, just like everyone else’s, is a limited resource, and you do not want to be forced to pay for everything, all the time. This is an important issue, and most experts recommend that it should be handled at the time of asking someone out, not much later in the evening when you are sitting down to dinner at a fancy place, or queuing up for tickets.

Use phrases that convey what you mean in a proper way. For example, it is perfectly all right to say, "This is awkward, but I would prefer if we each pay for ourselves. Is that all right with you?"

It is also perfectly acceptable to be honest when something is out of your range, and to suggest alternatives that are more affordable for you right now.

Always remember that where issues of money are involved, honesty is definitely the best policy.
