Take a look the competition.
Look at profiles in the same general categories as yours to see how you compare and to get ideas.
Ask for help.
Have trusted friends with good judgment look over your photos and written sections of your profile. Ask for overall impressions and specific suggestions.
Edit, edit, edit.
Spell check anything you write and refine your profile. "I wish I had a red pencil to correct about three quarters of what I see".

If you're not getting any responses, maybe it's time to expand your parameters, try different photos or rewrite your profile.
Determine deal breakers.

Expand your options.
Men, would you really never date an older woman? Women, are you sure you couldn't date someone shorter than you are? Being open-minded about things that aren't really important and you may just meet the partner for you.
Good Luck.
