Slinky Dating Australia has launched a new anti-fraud system to eliminate fraudulent users signing up as dating members and then swindling other unsuspecting members.
Slinky Dating Australia has always targeted Australian members, but had been swamped with web surfers trying to become members from places like Ghana, Nigeria and the Ukraine. More often than not they would try and hide their locations pretending to be in Australia by using local post codes or telephone details that turned out to be false.
They would then use stolen credit cards to buy credits to contact unsuspecting members promising that they were in or on their way to Australia, but just needed some short term financial help.
The new sophisticated fraud system identifies potential scammers using a point system that returns a score to web administrators. It also identifies whether they are using any of the common fraudster tricks. If the score returned is too high the application is automatically rejected.
Successful applications for membership are listed with a verified logo next to their nicknames on Slinky
Slinky Dating Australia managing director Jodie Brittain said that "a lot of members have become cautious of online dating. We have always encouraged members to report to us if they get contacted by anyone asking for money or financial assistance.
This new anti-fraud system is brilliant. We used to get hundreds of scammers trying to sign up every day and it was taking up a lot of time for our admin teams to identify them and occasionally they would slip through. Now, we have eliminated them completely. It is very satisfying having such a safe system working.
And as Jodie says, dont forget the golden rule - Never send money to another member.
